Character: Lea
Fandom: Kingdom Hearts
Character Notes: History does not include parts about Xion, as her return to Sora wiped her memory from all those who had interacted with her. Lea is post-Dream Drop Distance (Warning: MAJOR SPOILERS ALERT)
History:
Originally a normal boy in Radiant Gardens, Lea's life was changed along with that of his his friend Isa's when the world was overrun with darkness. Due to the strength of his heart, rather than simply ceasing to exist when his Heartless came into being he awoke as a Nobody - a being without a heart. Years passed, and both Lea and Isa found themselves members within a group known as Organization XIII run under Xemnas, a powerful Nobody seeking a method to give Nobodies a heart.

Believing himself to have no other goals, Lea - now named Axel - dedicated himself to this search. He spent some time among Organization XIII's ranks before Roxas was brought into the group as their thirteenth member. He became fast friends with the boy Roxas, who began to show him that just because he was a Nobody did not mean he did not have feelings - that he might, in truth, have a heart. As he grew closer to Roxas, he became more and more distant from the other members of Organization XIII, particularly from Siax, the Nobody of Isa. It quickly became habit for the two of them to meet at the top of Twilight Town's clocktower to share stories and thoughts over a bar of Sea-Salt ice cream.

Partway through their time together with each other, Axel was sent to Castle Oblivion, one of the strongholds of Organization XIII. Xemnas had ordered him to keep an eye on Marluxia and several other of the Organization's members, whom he believed were preparing to stage a coup de'tat. During his stay there, a Keyblade wielder by the name of Sora arrived. Through his interjection, Axel was able to uncover the plot to overthrow Organization XIII, and systematically removed the threats from their ranks. His mission completed, Axel returned to the main headquarters of Organization XIII to resume his normal duties.

When he arrived back, Roxas was out in a coma. Lea continued his duties as necessary, but spent as much time as possible at Roxas's side until the day his friend woke up again. Things had changed, however, and Axel tried to distance himself from Roxas as the goals of Organization XIII came closer and closer to being a reality. However, he couldn't bring himself to abandon his friend, and eventually he tried to set things right - too late, however. Roxas left the Organization, and while Axel tried to stop him, he was adamant, and left. Axel, to his own surprise, realized that he was going to miss Roxas - a feeling which shouldn't have been possible without a heart.

After Roxas's disappearance, Axel was ordered to track him down. He eventually found him in a digital world, of all places - specifically in a digital recreation of Twilight Town, where the two had so often spent time together. He tried to make Roxas remember who he was in the hopes that things might return to the way they had been before, but Roxas didn't remember in time. Axel attempted to subdue him, but Roxas surprised him by pulling out not one, but two Keyblades, and fended him off. In the end, Roxas returned to Sora, and Axel was left alone again.

Axel returned to the Organization then, and in short order ended up kidnapping Kairi. His intent was to lure Sora to the World That Never Was and to turn him back into a Heartless in order to bring Roxas back into existance - however, he had a change of heart when he realized that Roxas and Sora were the same. He couldn't bring himself to go through with this plan, and so instead he saved Sora from the Nobodies attacking him at the cost of all his strength. While he was starting to fade from existence, he apologized to Sora for kidnapping Kairi and ordered the boy to fix the mistake that he'd created.

When Axel next awoke, it was back in Radiant Gardens, along with several others from the Organization - though Siax and Xigbar were missing. When he looked in a mirror, he noticed that the tear-shaped marks that had marked him as a Nobody were gone; he was human again! Axel - now Lea - took a look around the Hollow Bastion along with his former Organization comrades, but eventually decided to look elsewhere. His search led him to Disney Castle, where his arrival came just in time to rescue Queen Minnie from Maleficent and Pete, and in turn save King Mickey, Donald, and Goofy from having to choose between the Queen's life or surrendering the data from Jiminy's Journal.

Having joined forces with the King and his allies, Lea came to the Mysterious Tower, where Master Yen Sid sent him and Mickey both into the realm of dreams in search of Sora and Riku. He found them in the World That Never Was, and arrived (again in the nick of time) to prevent Master Xehanort from possessing Sora's body with a heart of Darkness. Xigbar was surprised to see him, but Master Xehanort only nodded to one of the thirteen figures gathered. To Lea's horror, his old friend Isa - still the Nobody Siax - attacked him, and he was forced to regroup with Mickey and Riku. Luckily, Master Xehanort and the other twelve were forced to fall back, as the moment of time in which all thirteen Xehanorts were able to exist had passed.

They returned to the real world, but Sora did not awaken. Riku, having gained the powers of a Keyblade Master, dove into the sleeping boy's heart and woke him. Once Riku returned from the realm of slumber, the naming ceremony for the Keyblade Master was done, and Riku was named the new, true Keyblade Master. Then attention was turned to Lea, whom Master Yen Sid thanked for braving the darkness and allowing events to progress as well as they had. Then the question was raised: "Why are you here?" Lea confessed that he had come to Yen Sid to get training in becoming a Keyblade Wielder, which raised a surprised shout from Sora and Riku. "I was gonna swoop in, Keyblade in hand, but I just couldn't get mine to manifest. Must be in the snap of the wrist," Lea said, and flicked his hand outward - and suddenly, a blade in the shape of a curling flame appeared before him, marking him as the seventh and final Keyblade Wielder.

(OC Canon from here)
Since then, Lea has returned to Radiant Gardens, and has been researching anything and everything he can get his hands on that might aid in the coming fight. During one of these searches, though, an odd thing came up, one that he didn't remember searching for. It was simply called "The Community", and while he paid it no heed at the time, he's starting to realize his encounter with the Community was not just a matter of chance...

Personality:

Lea is a very caring person, although he frequently hides it behind layers of snark and sarcasm. He frequently finds himself going out of his way to help those he considers friends, even if he doesn't intend to at first. Though he's kind of guy who's happy to see other people succeed, he keeps a very realistic mindset on where he falls in that equation and decides what to do from there. However, his choices aren't always made in his personal best interest.

Lea is extremely secretive, despite his big mouth. The kind of man to look where no one would think to look, he has developed a very keen sense of what should and shouldn't be happening at any given time, and as such has become very good at collecting and keeping information. In addition, he's very good at directing the flow of conversation, and his poker face is unmatched. Moreover, as he's a serious trickster himself, it's difficult to fluster him, though it does happen on rare occasion. He treats everything as a joke, but always knows more than he lets on.

Despite his penchant for secrecy, Lea is very easygoing in a casual environment. He has a knack for making people smile, and is great at making situations humorous. Even in the middle of a fight, he's liable to crack a few jokes; often times opponents become flustered because it seems like he isn't taking things seriously - which is often true. It's very rare for Lea to ever fight seriously, and is when he does it's often characterized by an explosion of flames behind or around him in response to the emotional flare that comes with it.

Between the characters of Axel and of Lea, there is very little different on the surface, but their overall perspectives take a major shift. Axel, believing he had no heart, was very capable and even eager of doing the Organization's dirty work. He was an assassin by nature, and would use whatever underhanded and dirty tricks he could to get the upper hand, and would stomp out adversity from the shadows without remorse. So long as he believed the end was desirable, the means did not matter, and Axel would take whatever route was most efficient for him.

Lea, unlike his Nobody, has developed a sound moral compass. Though he's still a trickster and will strike out from the shadows, he doesn't share Axel's ruthlessness. His priorities have changed so that the end and the means must both be acceptable, and adjusted his agenda to consider others needs as well. Rather than making the people around him dance to his tune, he now works side by side with them for the sake of a brighter future for all. Though the change isn't surface-level, it is the major factor that separates Lea from his Nobody.

First Person (entry type): [Video Feed]
So how does this work...? I just talk to this thing and it records me, and people can see it? Uhm... How do I know if it's on? Jeez... Well, I guess it's working? I dunno. Whatever, I'll just start talking. It's just like a journal, right? So... uhm...

I don't even know what I'm doing at this point. I've been looking for anything that can help me and the guys out, but I'm coming up short on all accounts. Xemnas kept his interference with the different worlds pretty limited, so I thought that I'd just stick to investigating them, but there's nothing there that I don't already know. I've started spreading out to different worlds in the hope of finding... something, though I don't know what.

I guess I shouldn't be complaining. I'm the one who started this solo investigation, really. I could probably ask any of the guys to help me, but I don't want to be a bother to them, y'know? Especially since they're just as busy as I am, getting ready for the fight against Xehanort.

... But... man. I know we have to fight, but it's hard to get excited for it. It would have been one thing if it were as easy as going in and beating the bad guy, and having a happy ever after ending. But it's never that simple... and Isa's still under Xehanort's control. More than that, I don't know if I can save him. No... I don't know if he wants to be saved.

Is that what it is? Is that why I'm spending so much time looking for something that might not even exist? To keep my mind off the fact that I might have to kill my best friend? ... Damn, that's weak. But it's better than stewing over it, I suppose. And I don't know for certain if I'll have to kill him anyway, so why worry over it? Still... better safe than sorry. If I can find something, anything to help us, it'll be worth it.

Alright, I'm off. More worlds are out there... maybe I'll find something there. Here's hoping!

Is that right? I don't know, but I'm going to guess it worked. ... Now, how do I shut it off? This isn't anything like the normal programs in the Hollow Bastion's computer... Did that do it? No, it's still recording... Oh, here we go!

Third Person:
"What the hell is going on?!" Lea glared up at the sky as he stepped out of a dark portal; this was the third world in a row where he had stepped out only to be immediately pounded by rain. If all the worlds had a similar weather pattern, he'd never heard of it before, but by god it felt like these accursed clouds were following him like a lost puppy! He threw his hood up as a spark of lightning crashed down a few miles away, figuring that if he couldn't avoid the rain he'd at least avoid getting soaked through by it. He sighed and slumped his shoulders; at least the clouds felt like a decent match to his mood. It had been nearly a week since he'd left Yen Sid's tower, and he still had nothing useful to show for it. All his research had yielded was facts he'd already known and tidbits that were of no use anymore. It was depressing, to say the least.

He didn't know the world he was in this time; the layout looked a lot like something out of Twilight Town, but the overall demeanor was filthier, more grim. Even as he looked, a newspaper and a plastic bag blew by, caught in a gust of wind. It was if this world was supposed to be dark and gloomy...

"Whatever. Maybe I'll find something useful here. Just got to keep searching. You're a Keyblade Wielder now, Lea, you can't let this slow you down. Got it memorized?" He tapped the side of his head apathetically, but the use of his favorite phrase did manage to lift his spirits a bit. So he trudged on, looking about for something he could use... a movement caught his eye, and he noticed someone standing on the street corner, an umbrella raised to the storm. It looked like they were watching him, and holding some kind of device - he recognized it as a "phone" from his trips to other worlds. Maybe they could help him out? At the very least, they might know this area's layout.

He hurried across to the other person, trying to appear as non-threatening as possible in a black, hooded cloak. It was difficult, but his other option was to lower his hood and immediately get drenched again. Not that he wasn't already drenched, but whatever; he was done with rain. Still, at least it wasn't gusting too, and Lea being who he was, he was already starting to dry out under the cloak. Actually, when he wasn't being pelted by the rain, it was... kind of lovely to view the world through a sheet of rain. He smiled a little, amused to find such a silver lining, and approached the stranger.

"Yo!" he called, and waved as he came closer to the person. "Sorry to trouble, but I'm a little lost. Think you could help me out?"
